Artist Statement
My art focuses on the concept of life mapping. For me life mapping is a way to structure the chaos of my personal life. I explore it through the use of propagating pattern, patterns that repeat through ones life but alter slightly each time. To create a propagating pattern involves trial and error and I believe this represents the growth of a personal pattern or identity.
The patterns that I use come mainly from my home, wallpaper, couch, I feel this represents the mundane, and through the repetition of these patterns I am not only exploring the frustration of repeating patterns in ones life but also the safety of the known.
I use drawing as my main medium for exploring these themes. Drawing is a slow and labour intensive process, as a metaphor drawing represents the time and growth of an identity.
