Artist Statement
The painting which I am currently involved with are inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy. The paintings are influenced both by the allegorical,mystical and literal descriptions of Dante's journey. The work interprets this journey as an allegory, descending and transcending levels of consciousness in an attempt to find balance. This is the balance between the animalistic and the visceral against the aspirational and divinely inspired and the veltro, the action to reform. It is an reinterpretation of Dante's narrative as a journey from the egotistical and the animalistic to a reintegration of the true self symbolised in the waters of lethe and eunoe.
