Paola Macari
Jewellery Designer

Artist Statement

I design and make contemporary jewellery that can be both wearable and non wearable. The jewellery that I design has a strong sculptural element to it, the reason for this being is that I feel the form is key to the design. Within the pieces that I produce, I intend to develop my own themes and language of what form is.

As sculpture creates impact in the environment it’s placed, I want my jewellery to be visually striking. The scale of my designs, along with a unique combination of materials highlights the fundamental characteristics of my work.

The collections which I design and produce will focus on alternative aspects of art and design. Each piece contains energy and freedom, but also functions and can be worn everyday. To produce and develop a piece which has a balance of materials and concept is important for it to convey the vision clearly. Therefore a three dimensional sculptural image is produced to be effective as a visual image that is worn to create a statement.
