Artist Statement
My work combines both my interests in ceramics and biology in a curious, investigative way. I look beyond ceramics functional history and see it as a fresh material to communicate new ideas. Working with porcelain clay, I handbuild sculptural forms which are fired to 1260 degrees and partially glazed with a clear glaze. The theme of my work considers the idea that our planet is still evolving. It is commenting on our insatiable appetite to explore and categorise this constantly changing world. We are not merely content to know that something exists; we need to classify it to make order out of persistent randomness.
