Artist Statement
Biography: Fiona Byrne recently completed a BA in Art and Design History and Glass Design at the National College of Art and Design. She has exhibited her work in various locations such as the Film Base and The Back Loft in Dublin as well as Bild-Werk, Frauenau in Germany. She was accepted on the European Erasmus Placement Programme and spent time in the Scottish highlands working at Glasstorm Studio. She also received a half scholarship to attend the Pittsburg Glass Centre in Pennsylvania, USA. Fiona recently received a Crafts Council grant to attend North Lands Creative Glass. She recently completed an internship at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop in Lumsden and is now returning to Glasstorm Studio to work full time for the comming year.

Awards
2009, June Future Makers Grant: Residencies and Training, received additional funding from the Crafts Council of Ireland to attend North Lands Creative Glass
2009, April North Lands Creative Glass, received funding from the Friends of North Lands Fund to attend a master class with Meike Groot and Dana Zamecnikova at the facility in Lybster, Scotland.
2008, Aug Pittsburgh Glass Centre, Pennsylvania, received a half scholarship to attend a hot glass sculpting workshop with Scot Darlington,
2008, June RDS National Crafts Competition, my submission was selected for the final round for judging in the category of Multimedia Textiles.
2008, Jan-May Leonardo Scheme, offers students paid work experience in their chosen discipline. I worked at Glasstorm studio in Tain, Scotland with Nicola Burns and Brodie Nairn.
