Artist Statement
My work is based on understanding the essence of nature, where everything is linked together in a Unity. This One breathing entity is my personal philosophy and also a major source of inspiration. Human beings seem to search for a connection between themselves and nature in order to find a serenity, harmony and beauty. In my work I am inspired by the repetitive patterns of plants which are originated by their growing parts. I observed their complex structures which often create a spiral movement. I have taken micro-images which provides an extraordinary close up of the rhythm in their growth and also the geometry created by their circular structure. The abstract shape and form can be found as an analogy in the structures of Mandalas and in a certain types of Architectural ground plans. I use mostly the slip casting technique suitable for the batch production which enables me to make multiples of the forms and allows me to make many variations of each piece. Looking at several factories which mass produce ceramics has given me an understanding of the designers working in this field. I am greatly interested in the factories in the Slovak and Czech Republic, Poland and also factories in Great Britain and Ireland. I strongly believe to find an opportunity to work in this area of interest in the near future.
